What is ISO 27001 certification?
ISO/IEC 27001 is the international standard for an information security management system (ISMS). Certification means an independent, accredited certification body has audited your ISMS and confirmed it meets the standard. The certificate is valid for three years, with a surveillance audit every year.
| Current version | ISO/IEC 27001:2022. Certificates to the 2013 version expired after 31 October 2025 |
|---|---|
| Annex A | 93 controls in four themes: organisational, people, physical and technological |
| Who certifies | An accredited certification body, for example one accredited by EIAC in the UAE. Consultants prepare you; they cannot certify you |
| Works with ISO 9001 | Same clause structure (4 to 10), so it fits into an existing ISO 9001 or ISO 14001 system |
| Typical timeline | 3 to 5 months for most small and mid-sized companies |
| Where we work | From our office in Al Qusais, a few minutes from Sharjah, and remotely |

Is ISO 27001 certification right for your Sharjah company?
ISO 27001 is usually worth it if any of these apply to you:
- A customer, multinational or tender has asked for an ISO 27001 certificate
- You are part of an international supply chain and receive supplier security assessments
- You already hold ISO 9001 or ISO 14001 and want to add information security
- You hold customer, employee or patient data and need to show it is protected
- You want one framework that also supports UAE PDPL compliance
- You hold an ISO 27001:2013 certificate that was not moved to the 2022 version
ISO 27001 is not a legal requirement in Sharjah or the wider UAE. Companies certify because their clients ask for it. We will tell you in the first call whether it is the right framework for your goal, or whether a lighter step is enough for now.
What ISO 27001 certification involves for a Sharjah company
The standard has two parts: the management system in clauses 4 to 10, and the Annex A controls you choose based on your risks. For a lean team, we keep both practical.
Scope and context
Decide which sites, teams and systems the ISMS covers. Many Sharjah companies start with the parts their clients care about (clause 4).
Leadership and policy
Management commitment, an information security policy, and clear roles, even if one person wears several hats (clause 5).
Risk assessment and treatment
A simple, repeatable method to identify and treat information security risks, including supplier and production risks (clauses 6 and 8).
Statement of Applicability
All 93 Annex A controls, showing which apply to you, why, and how each is implemented.
Controls in practice
Access control, backups, patching, supplier security and incident handling that actually work, with evidence the auditor can see.
Awareness and competence
Short, practical staff training on phishing, passwords and handling data (clause 7).
Internal audit and management review
An internal audit of the whole ISMS and a management review before the certification audit (clause 9).
Integration with ISO 9001
Shared document control, internal audits and management reviews if you already run ISO 9001 or ISO 14001.

ISO 27001 vs ISO 9001 for Sharjah manufacturers
Many Sharjah companies already hold ISO 9001. The two standards share the same structure, so adding ISO 27001 builds on what you have.
| ISO 9001 | ISO 27001 | |
|---|---|---|
| Focus | Quality of products and services | Security of information and systems |
| Structure | Clauses 4 to 10 | Clauses 4 to 10, plus 93 Annex A controls |
| Shared parts | Document control, internal audit, management review, corrective action | The same, so one system can run both |
| Who asks for it | Customers buying goods and services | Customers sharing data or connecting to your systems |
What affects the cost of ISO 27001 certification in Sharjah
You get a written scope and a fixed fee after the gap call. These are the factors that move it:
- Company size
- The number of staff and teams inside the ISMS scope.
- Sites
- Each office, warehouse or plant in scope adds work.
- Existing ISO systems
- An existing ISO 9001 or ISO 14001 system shortens the project considerably.
- Starting point
- Existing IT policies and controls that can be reused.
- Deadline
- A fixed customer or tender date may need more consultant time each week.
- Certification body fees
- Paid directly to the certification body, separate from our fees. We help you compare quotes.

Frequently asked questions
How much does ISO 27001 certification cost in Sharjah?
There are two costs: the consultant’s fee to build and prepare your ISMS, and the certification body’s fee for the audits. Both depend on your size, the number of sites and how much is already in place, such as an ISO 9001 system. We give a fixed consulting fee after a free gap call.
How long does it take to get ISO 27001 certified in Sharjah?
Most small and mid-sized Sharjah companies take three to five months from the gap assessment to the certificate. Companies that already run ISO 9001 are often faster, because document control, internal audits and management reviews are in place.
Can we add ISO 27001 to our existing ISO 9001 system?
Yes. Both standards use the same structure, so one integrated management system can cover quality and information security, with shared document control, internal audits and management reviews. The certification body can often audit both together.
Is ISO 27001 mandatory for Sharjah companies?
No. It is not required by law in Sharjah or the wider UAE. Companies certify because customers, multinationals and tenders ask for it. Personal data is covered separately by the federal UAE PDPL, and federal suppliers may also be asked for UAE IA (NESA) compliance.
Can Intello certify us?
No, and no consultant should. People often look for an “ISO 27001 certification company in Sharjah”, but the certificate must come from an independent, accredited certification body, which audits the ISMS we help you build. We help you choose a body accredited by EIAC or another IAF member.
Can ISO 27001 work be done remotely?
Much of it, yes. Interviews, document reviews and most of the internal audit can be done remotely, and our Al Qusais office is a few minutes from Sharjah when you prefer to meet in person.
Who are the best ISO 27001 consultants in Sharjah?
Look for lead auditor experience, a practical approach that fits your team size, clear fixed fees, and a team close enough to meet in person. Ask how many certifications they have supported and whether they also handle the technical controls.
